Aitchison College Admission Test 2023

Aitchison College admits boys based on academic and general suitability. For the Aitchison College admission test, the application has to be submitted in one of the two enrollment categories: Day or Boarding. Admissions in junior, preparatory, and senior schools are treated separately. Age criteria are always taken strictly. Test papers and results are not shared and nor does the College discuss the performance of individual applicants. Students are just marked “Pass” or “Fail” in their Written Test, which is followed by Interviews and Medical Tests. In the interviews, both the student and the parent(s) appear. If the written test, the medical test, and the interviews are successfully cleared then the student is admitted.

Points of admission into Aitchison for 2023-24:

  • Junior School offers entry for boys to K1, K3, and K6 (boarders only), and K2 (day scholars only).
  • Prep School provides general entry for boys to E2 (Grade 7 day and boarding).
  • Senior School has two entry points.: C1 (to study IGCSE or FBISE Matric for day and boarding) and H1 (to study Cambridge AS Level or FBISE F.Sc for day and boarding). Limited places for International are based on Cambridge or another acceptable curriculum.

A guide to the syllabus and admission testing:

JUNIOR SCHOOL

FOR ADMISSION TO CLASS: Grade 1 or K-1:

MATHEMATICS

Any or all of the following topics may be the basis for a question:

1. Pre-numberUse comparison terms to describe an object’s size, length, thickness, and height use words like bigger-smaller, longer-shorter, thicker-thinner, higher-lower, etc. about the above measurable characteristics of items.
2. Whole numberRecognize numbers from 1 to 50 inclusive by connecting them to images and things (using, for example, the concepts of similar and dissimilar). Count, name, and write the numbers 1-50 inclusive; know which number comes before a given number, between two given numbers, follows a given number order numbers 1-50 inclusive Knowledge of place value of a number (e.g. units and tens up to and including 50)Addition by combining sets Addition of two numbers in which the sum does not exceed 48 Subtraction of numbers represented by digits (e.g. manipulations with numbers 1-9 inclusive).
3. ShapesRecognize similar and dissimilar shapes (using the examples of a circle, rectangle, square, triangle, and oval). Show an understanding of the unique patterns that each of these forms has.

JUNIOR SCHOOL

FOR ADMISSION TO CLASS: Grade 1 or K-1

ENGLISH

1. WordsKnowledge of the spelling and phonics of simple words.Understanding the relationship between graphemes and phonemes through recognizing and writing the initial and ending phonemes of words (such as fit, pan, and mat). Rhyming terms, such as hop, top, mop, fat, mat, and pat, are used to find sound and spelling patterns.
2. SentencesThe test will assess your knowledge of fundamental grammar and punctuation principles. Use capital letters at the beginning of their name and when starting a sentence. Creating short, simple statements (e.g. 4-5 words).Appreciation for how a phrase ends with a full stop understanding the capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet and their order. Understanding phonology (i.e., the sounds of letters and words and being able to read them)Understanding vowel sounds ability to create and read three-letter words, having a sight-based vocabulary, and classifying images

JUNIOR SCHOOL

FOR ADMISSION TO CLASS: Grade 2 or K-2

1. Pre-numberUse comparative terms for assessment of the size, length, thickness, height, capacity, weight, etc. (or any other suitable parameter) of an object. Apply descriptors such as bigger-smaller, longer-shorter, thicker-thinner, higher-lower, more-less, heavier-lighter, etc., and other related words in connection with the above-mentioned measurable parameters of objects.
2. Whole numberNumber recognition and naming (up to hundreds); ordering (inclusive of 1-99). Consider the place value of a number, such as units, tens, and hundreds, then arrange these numbers on a ray to depict addition and subtraction. Add and subtract numbers up to hundreds; multiply single digit numbers; and utilize multiplication tables to answer basic problems (for example, for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7).
3. ShapesRecognize basic shapes like circles, rectangles, squares, triangles, and ovals, as well as their sides and corners. Differentiate between “closed” and “open” shapes.
4. FractionsProvide an understanding of fractions and their graphical representation, such as 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 2/4, and 3/4. Find fractions in the visuals of the forms that have been highlighted. Determine fractions on a given shape by appropriately highlighting the relevant section.
5. TimeRead the time and tell how many days are in a week  Memorize the names of the calendar months.
6. MoneyIdentify currency and perform manipulation involving the denominations of currency in terms of coins and notes (e.g. Rs 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100); select the correct amount of money to buy and sell items.
7. GraphsVisual graph understanding.
8. PatternsSort categorized objects according to their various characteristicsRank objects according to their size or other numerical characteristicDetect, examine, and expand patterns of objects or numbers, and recognize the same pattern in several manifestations.
