The SAT known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test is organized by the College Board. SAT test format follows a structured approach where it’s divided into two sections: Maths and English. The test is totally MCQ-based and has 180 minutes in total to complete 152 multiple-choice questions. SAT evaluates the reading, writing, and mathematics skills of the students, and students from grade 9 onwards start taking it for admission to colleges and universities worldwide, especially in North America, for undergrad programs.
Before preparing for the test, students should know the format of the SAT as it will help them to prepare better and achieve their cut-off score smartly. It consists of the following sections:
SAT – Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW)
This part of SAT format involves Reading and Writing sections. This section includes various passages, charts, and diagrams.
- SAT Reading Section Format
It consists of five passages. Out of those five passages, 52 MCQs are given. Then, students need to finish the entire section in 65 minutes. The purpose of this part is certainly to examine students’ awareness of the text’s context.
- SAT Writing and Language Test Format
This section includes four passages with 44 MCQs. Students have 35 minutes to finish this. This section places a lot of emphasis on student’s proficiency in English grammar and language skills. Additionally, it emphasizes how much control students have over sentence construction, including punctuation and style.
SAT Mathematics Format
Two following sections comprise the mathematics:
- Questions to be solved with a calculator
- Questions to be solved without a calculator
- 58 questions are given which have to be completed in 80 minutes.
- This part is mostly concerned with trigonometry, algebra, and geometry.
